Popcorn is loaded with antioxidants & fiber, researchers say

 
Preliminary lab results show a serving of plain popcorn has almost twice as many polyphenols, antioxidants that protect against disease, as a serving of most fruit, researchers reported at the American Chemical Society annual meeting.

 

Sleep Patterns and Heart Risk

 
A retrospective analysis of the U.S. National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey showed that less than six hours or more than eight hours of sleep increased the risk of developing heart conditions. Adults who slept less were twice as likely to suffer a stroke or heart attack and at 1.6 times greater risk of congestive heart failure, while those who slept more than eight hours were twice as likely to experience angina and 1.1 times more likely to have coronary artery disease …

In defense of “pink slime”

 

"Pink slime," the lean, finely trimmed beef from Beef Products, is the subject of public outcry, but food columnist Ari LeVaux argues it is no worse than other elements of processed meat. The Department of Agriculture inspector who coined the phrase in 2002 did not find pink slime dangerous, but rather argued that it was not ground beef and should not be labeled as such.
