CDC: Drowning is a leading cause of child deaths in U.S.
Drowning killed more children aged 1 to 4 than any other cause except birth defects between 2005 and 2009, CDC researchers wrote in the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. Most fatal and nonfatal drownings involving children took place at swimming pools.
